You are all welcome to our Ceilidh on Saturday 18th February at Caerleon Town Hall. The Dai Bach Band will be providing the music and doors open at 7.30 for an 8.15 start. Tickets are £5 (family ticket only £15) and tickets through our usual providers: Caerleon Tourist Info Centre, High Street (01633 422656) & Rafi Goldsmith, Ffwrrwm Arts Centre (01633 430271)

We’re all delighted that Sam Carter will be coming to perform at Llanhennock Village Hall on Saturday 3rd March. Since winning Best Newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in February 2010, midlands-born singer, guitarist and songwriter Sam Carter has been more in demand than ever. More information to follow.

Also joining us at Caerleon Town Hall on Saturday 24th March is Jamie Smith’s Mabon. This is an instrumental band led by Jamie Smith on accordion, Oli Wilson-Dickson on fiddle and Calum Stewart on wooden flute.  The three tune players are joined onstage by newest member Adam Rhodes on bouzouki, Matt Downer on bass guitar and upright bass, and Iolo Whelan on drums and percussion. More details to follow.

Noticeboard Other local events and activities worth supporting

Borough Blues Club

Saturday 7th January: Jay Tamkin Band  supported by Mike Parker. Playing many instruments, you will often see Jay playing Lapjack, drums, guitar, bass & keys. Influenced on the blues side by SRV, Walter Trout and Albert and Freddie King, he cites Steely Dan's Donald Fagen as being equally important influence on the jazz side. Jay was further inspired by Paul Jones's BBC 2 Blues show before finding his musical conduits in the shape of Popa Chubby and John Mayall's guitarist Buddy Whittington. Significantly perhaps, he's already managed to play with both of his heroes.

Islwyn Guitar Club

Friday 20th January: Chris Fry and Friends. In celebration of 10 years of the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar night a very special night is planned with Chris, the amazing award winning lead guitarist with excellent progressive rockers Magenta and a fine classical guitarist. Chris teams up with a few surprise guests for an evening of world classic acoustic pyrotechnics. Bring your guitar and plenty of money for a big raffle.

Lyceum Folk Club

Thursday 12th January: Jackie Oates with Karen Tweed. Jackie will be performing tracks from her new album ‘Saturnine’ along with other repertoire favourites.
