Dai Edwards
Dai lives in Pontypridd and has received commissions from a wide range of Local Authorities and environmental groups. He sculpted a tree from recycled wood for us last year. Dai also carries out environmental educational workshops for various schools and community groups in South Wales. Examples of his work can be seen on www.gno-sis.co.uk. |
Tom Harvey
This is Tom "Carver Harvey's” second visit to the Festival. He lives in Gloucestershire. He studied Fine Art at De Montfort University followed by several years working in forestry and tree surgery. Tom is now well established as an artist, undertaking private and public commissions often involving existing standing timber. He has taken part in many symposia including Westonbirt and the Cwmaman Symposium and also runs courses on carving techniques. His website is www.carverharvey.co.uk |

Dave Johnson
This will be the fourth time Dave has taken part in our Festival and there are a number of examples of his work in Caerleon. Dave lives in the Forest of Dean and is a founder member of both the British Woodcarvers' Association and the "Sculptree Team" which operates each year at Westonbirt Arboretum. More recently the carving of large damaged standing trees has become a major part of his work. He has worked at many international events and his public work can be seen, amongst other places, at Richmond Park in London, Lower Brockhampton House, Kelmarsh Hall and Cotswold Water Parks. Robert Koenig
Robert was last with us in 2005, when he carved the Lady of Shallot- now in the grounds of the Celtic Manor Golf Resort. Now living in Hove, East Sussex, Robert was born in Manchester of Polish immigrants. He completed his secondary education in Paris, before returning to England to study Fine Art at Brighton Polytechnic and then was a postgraduate at the prestigious Slade School of Art, London where he specialised in sculpture. Robert is also a Member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, regularly works on public commissions and has also exhibited widely both in the UK and overseas. ‘Odyssey’ a work consisting of 32 wood figures each 2.5 metres tall is currently on extensive tour and will be in Worcester Cathedral this August, having previously been exhibited at Chichester, Portsmouth and Rochester Cathedrals as well as sites in Poland and the Ukraine. David Lloyd
David was at the 2005 Festival where he carved the "Celtic Warrior", now sited near the Bell Inn in Caerleon Ultra Pontem. David is based in Kidwelly, West Wales and has exhibited widely in Wales and Ireland. A Welsh speaker, he appeared on S4C news in 2005, when their camera crew covered the Festival. His television fame was enhanced when he carved an ash seat for Castell Henllys, a reconstructed Iron Age Hill Fort, which subsequently featured in a BBC television programme. Paul Sivell
Paul is from the Isle of Wight and is a self taught carver and sculptor. His background is in forestry, arboriculture and countryside management, but his interest in sculpting goes back 25 years and he has carried out numerous public and private commissions. Paul often specialises in turning dying, damaged or fallen trees into sculptures or unique garden features. His figure of Arthur, Merlin and Guinevere from the 2006 Festival can now be seen in the main street at Llangybi, Monmouthshire. Visit www.thecarvedtree.com |
