Newport-based Clair finds inspiration in the world around her as well as in the beauty of the materials she selects, sourced from across the globe. "I'm always looking for unusual materials. I work on one-off designs unless a similar one has been requested, even then no two will be exactly alike. I work with sterling and fine silver along with copper and a host of semi-precious stones. I also use glass, crystal, wood, shell and a wide variety of reclaimed items." Clair was born in Pontypool but has lived in Newport most of her life. She has explored painting, photography and ceramics but has found her niche in jewellery-making, largely teaching herself a multitude of skills, including those needed to run a business.
