After leaving Ebbw Vale Grammar School, David studied at Newport and Leeds Colleges of Art and received the National Diploma in Design.

After a successful career as an interior designer, he took early retirement in 1996 to concentrate on establishing himself as a watercolour artist.

Although mainly painting scenes of Gwent, he has recently widened his horizons to include parts of Europe. His prints, as well as being very popular locally, have found their way to numerous countries around the world.
