Alexander Ivanov, Bulgaria

Alex ("Sasho") took part in Caerleon's first sculpture symposium in 2003 and has carried out private commissions here. He was born in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and graduated from wood carving school in Triava and Art Academy in Veliko Tarnovo. He has taken part in many international wood sculpture symposia in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy and the UK. He has had nine solo exhibitions since 1992 and has won awards and diplomas from Bulgaria, France and Italy. Many commissions are sited in children's playgrounds, parks, woodlands and mountains.

His proposal for Caerleon (above) is a bench form he calls Usk - Spirit of the Waves. Below right: the sculpture he created on his first visit to Caerleon.
