Jiri Netik - Czech Republic Jiri was born at Brno in 1953. He studied chemistry, then became a professional musician before studying with a restorer of medieval carvings in Brno. Since 1988 he has been a freelance sculptor, carver and restorer, and a teacher of carving and sculpture. He has exhibited widely in Europe and Scandinavia. He is coming to Caerleon with his sculptor wife Martina - who took part in the 2005 Caerleon symposium - and their two sons. Above: a detail from a river-inspired proposal for Caerleon and (right) a design for a sculpture commemorating the Caerleon-born writer Arthur Machen, and another example of his work.
