Schools Arts Awards 2017

Background to Schools’ Arts Awards Event For the past 16 years there has been a Schools’ Art Awards event supported by 5 local Primary schools – artwork being summited from Nursery to Yr 6.

Two pieces of artwork from each year group is selected by staff that represents the best response to a theme set by the Caerleon Festival * for skill and/or effort.

* A theme sheet with starting points is sent out to schools by Christmas. This is not a condition of entry but the ideas are generally taken up. This year’s theme is ‘WHEN I GROW UP”.

‘On being ambitious: “Well, maybe it started that way. As a dream, but doesn’t everything. Those buildings. These lights. This whole city. Somebody had to dream about it first. And maybe that is what I did. I dreamed about coming here, but then I did it.’

Recent addition. For the past 2-3 years we have encourage schools to submit 2 examples of creative writing from their Junior Depts. (Yr3 -Yr6) that has been produced over the past year.

As one of the opening events of the Caerleon Festival there is a Schools’ Arts Awards event attended by the Mayor of Newport.

The Caerleon Festival acknowledges the sponsorship of Celtic Manor Hotel in providing venue and hospitality for Awards presentation event, Sainsburys & Waterstones for the prizes.
