Background to Schools’ Arts Awards Event

For the past 17 years there has been a Schools’ Art Awards event supported by 5 local Primary schools with two pieces of artwork from each year group being summited from Nursery to Yr 6 and last year we were delighted to have six pieces of artwork submitted from the Lower school of the Caerleon Comprehensive

The work, selected by staff represents the best response to a theme set by the Caerleon Festival * for skill and/or effort.

A theme sheet with starting points is sent out to schools by Christmas. This is not a condition of entry but the ideas are generally taken up. This year’s theme is:

There’s a party goin’ on right here
A celebration to last throughout the years
So bring your good times, and your laughter too
We gonna celebrate your party with you

Come on now
Let’s all celebrate and have a good time
We gonna celebrate and have a good time!

In recent years we have invited schools to submit 2 examples of creative writing from Yr3 –Yr 6 in the junior schools and Yr 7 – Yr 9 in the Caerleon Comprehensive that have been produced during the school year.

As one of the opening events of the Caerleon Festival there is a Schools’ Arts Awards event attended by the Mayor of Newport where prizes for Art & literature have been awarded

The Caerleon Festival acknowledges the sponsorship of Celtic Manor Hotel in providing venue and hospitality for Awards presentation event, Sainsburys for the prizes.
