For a number of years the Festival has invited writers to showcase their latest books at an all-day event held in a marquee in the garden of the Priory Hotel, Caerleon.
Previously called ‘Meet the Authors’ and now called ‘Lit on the Lawn’, the event has attracted book lovers of all ages to listen to a wide variety of writers, principally from Wales and the Borders, reading extracts from their work and answering questions from the audience.
Our aim is for the audience to have an informative and engaging day, in informal surroundings. We hope that the authors enjoy it too.
The themes for each Festival have been reflected in the books and writers chosen – for example, the natural environment, related to the festival’s keen interest in its own meadowland project near Caerleon Bridge ; Arthur Machen (1863-1947) – an author born and bred in Caerleon, taking inspiration from the surrounding Gwent countryside, known for his influential supernatural fantasy and horror fiction ; and, this year, the world of entertainment – stage, screen and music.
The Chepstow Bookshop also attends so that the authors’ latest publications can be viewed ….. and bought.
